I know I’m not the only one who has ever gotten into an argument or dealt with hate. I think it is a normal thing to deal with (which is kind of sad) so I decided to give you some of my tips on how to deal with the hater and how to mentally deal with it.
- Don’t let it affect you
The biggest problem is letting it affect you. When you let it get to you, you are letting them win and doing what they wanted in the first place. It’s so important to just brush it off and act like it’s water off of a ducks back.
2. Treat them with kindness
When you treat someone with kindness instead of reciprocating the hate (no matter how badly you want to) they really have nothing bad to say about you and therefore can’t hate on you.
3. Block them
This one really only applies to cyberbullying, but if it is online just block them. It’s not worth going through all of the stress and anxiety to read all of the hate so when you see it, immediately block the person.
4. Tell an adult or someone older that you trust
This one seems kind of annoying as you don’t always want to be a snitch, but sometimes it’s better to get another persons perspective on how to deal with the hater. The adult, if the hater is way out of hand, can take the matter into their own hands and deal with it by contacting their parent, another source or contacting the person who is doing the hating.
5. Lastly, use your coping skills
This one is basically only for when it’s either really bad or is really affecting you. Use your coping skills and draw, journal, paint, pet your dog, whatever helps you that is a healthy way of coping. Your coping skills can distract you from the situation at hand and help you take a deep breath and step back to reevaluate the situation.
I hope that my tips helped you and made you feel less alone. Almost everyone has received hate from someone so you are not alone. Remember to always reach out to an adult if the situation is out of hand and taken to the extreme or is really hurting you.
